About a Film Director From NDG

Image
I was at the Benny Library last week when I came upon a DVD named Indian Horse - which I recognized as having been directed by Stephen Campanelli - formerly from NDG.  For the last 25+ years, Stephen has lived in LA - where he worked as part of Clint Eastwood's crew on the majority of his movies - as head cameraman. Indian Horse was Stephen's directorial debut - and a stunning film it is!  It tells the story of an Ojibway family who are escaping to the wilds to evade the grasp of the church and the Residential School system.  The family gets fragmented and the young boy - Saul - becomes caught up in the Residential School.  Thanks to the good heartedness of one of the pastors - Saul - who shows a tremendous interest in hockey despite the fact that he is too young to play under the school's authority - by promising to tend the rink in early mornings gets to learn how to skate and play through watching Hockey Night In Canada on the pastor's TV. The story takes us throu...

A Bargain - All Things Considered!

Image
Yesterday I had an easy day - and was looking to watch some grass court tennis from either London or Mallorca.  I switched on YSN and to my dismay - neither of the tournaments were aired on any of their 5 stations.  I checked to see whether they were offered on TSN+ - and sure enough they were!  I was mad - because there is nothing stopping the powers that be at Bell from showing these on their regular channels - other than greed.  I was motivated to send the following message to Mirko Bibic - the President and CEO of BCE. Following sending the message I registered for TSN+ - at $9.20/mth.  This amount will not kill me and the pleasure I will receive from the programming is huge.  Yesterday and today I watched probably 8 hours of great tennis from London - an easy $10 value for me - especially when you consider a medium coffee is anywhere between $3 and $5 at most places except McDonalds - which has great coffee and a medium is only $1.45! Along a similar ...

A Taste of India

Image
Christy and I were looking forward to having a nice easy Sunday dinner at home - a hot chicken sandwich complete with french fries and canned peas on top of the gravy-soaked bread.  When I went into the fridge at 5pm - I saw that we did not have 4 pieces of bread left - and didn't want to run out at this hour just for a loaf of bread. I suggested we try Express Indien - a restaurant on Somerled which had been recommded highly by a friend - Kathy - who goes there regularly for what she called their vegetarian dinner at $13.99.  We walked by the restaurant at about 6:45pm tonight and there was only one person sitting in the large and beautifully adorned dining hall - who turned out to be Shri Ram - the Executive Chef! A very warm and lovely lady came out from the kitchen and helped us to our seats, brought us menus and a beautiful container filled with chilled water.  I opted for the Butter Chicken Thali at $18.99 and Christy chose the Punjabi Thali at $17.99. ...

You Can Heal your Life!

Image
This morning I got word from Benny Library that the DVD I had requested named 'You Can Heal Your Life,' by Louise L. Hay was waiting for me.  I was at the library in a flash - as Christy and I had been waiting to watch it for days!  Louise Hay is the person Christy gives credit for turning around - and even saving her life - and while she had read all of her books - she had never seen this DVD. We have just finished watching it - and I must recommend it to everyone!  The collection of great teachers in this presentation is monumental - with each reinforcing the precepts Louise embodies. The concepts would seem simplistic - that we are in complete control of our lives - by choosing what we say to ourselves and others in every moment.  This idea has dated back I'm certain many centuries - but in recent times has been noted by people such as Norman Vincent Peale and Eckhardt Tolle - to name but a couple. Two of the ideas which I found very powerful were the following: L...

A Sports and Movie Sunday!

Image
It was a busy day for Christy and I today - Sunday.  We were up early to go for the American Buffet Breakfast at Playground Poker - where you get an amazing buffet for $15 - no tax or tip - with a $10 play voucher each which we very much enjoyed - playing but losing ultimately on electronic blackjack!  From there we did a tour of Chateauguay - Christy's stomping grounds in her youth.  We then got our groceries at Super C on St. Jacques and ended up in little Parc Leduc - next to Kensington Presbyterian Church on Grand Blvd - sitting in big Adirondack chairs - enjoying the sun and breeze - along with the music coming from a morning of Yoga in the Park. Christy headed to church just down the street at St. Ansgar's and I went home to watch the French Open Men's Tennis Final - between world #1 Jannick Sinner and world #2 Carlos Alcaraz.  It was an incredible 5&1/2 hour battle with Sinner taking the first two sets and Alcaraz coming back to win in 5 sets - 7-6 in ...

Heaven in the simplest of places!

Image
Admittedly we don't have everything - not even most of what we want.  With that said, Christy and I are extremely grateful for everything we do have - and see our lives as getting better and better - by the day. Among our great joys is enjoying the foods we eat.  Through careful planning - we are able to eat out 4 times/week - at places we enjoy and which enable us to have great meals on a budget.  These include Velat Pizza - where we have either a Steak and Steak sub, fries and onion rings, cheeseburgers with fries and rings or a great pizza with onion rings, Nikas - where we have a great choice of meals all around $16.95 including soup (and where you can byob) and Playgound Poker - where we enjoy our Friday meal at lunch and Sunday Breakfast Buffet . To go along with this we also enjoy several great little meals at home I'd like to share with you: Bagel with cream cheese and jam .  Christy calls this Heaven on Earth!  It consists of day old poppy seed bage...

The Library Isn't Just For Books!

Image
My new wife Christy and I live in a nice-sized 3&1/2.  We have 56" TV's in the living room as well as one in our bedroom - the latter having been passed on to me by the angel who I rented this unit from - Surya - starting March of 2024. The unit in the living room is a SMART TV - and I have access to YOutube and Prime TV through this.  While I have an Apple 4K TV Box - I haven't installed it in the bedroom - and since the TV is not a SMART TV - only have access to cable.  Recently we bought a nice Panasonic DVD Player off of Facebook Marketplace for $10. That was a couple of weeks ago.  Since that time we have made several trips to Benny Library in order to peruse the DVD collection - and to take out movies which spoke to us.  To date we have watch about 10 - each of which being special in their own way - and something which in some way or another was meant for us to see - and to recommend. Last evening we watched Rocketman - the life story of Reginald Dwigh...

I Remembered My Dream!

Image
We all dream frequently every night.  For many years now, God has given me great dreams of changing this world to what I call Heaven on Earth.  But for the most part - He has not enabled me to remember my dreams - leaving me to scramble for fragments in my waking hours. Tonight I had a BIG dream!  From the hour I fell alseep to the time I awoke I was focused on realizing everything God has put on my heart for G3 Golf .  And in my dream every person who He has groomed to be a part of this came to the table - and played great roles in this realization!  At about 3am I awakened and couldn't help but to squeeze my love - Christy - tightly to tell her I remembered my dream!  She awoke immediately and told me she wanted to hear everything!  I told her it could wait until morning. But this couldn't! In 2003 God delivered a vision to myself and two amazing people in golf I was working with from Minneapolis, MN - John Montague and Kevin Unterreiner.  It wa...
