Our West Island Tour

Image
This evening I gave Christy the option - either we could eat the whole cooked chicken we bought at Super C for $9.99 along with the wonderful battered fries we buy from Cavendish Farm - or we go on a bit of a tour - to Costco and then MacAllan's Pub.  It would sound like the choice was inevitable - save for the fact that there was one proviso - if we go to the pub - tomorrow night we will eat the chicken and not go to Nikas for dinner!  Before I got the words out of my mouth - her decision was made! So at just after 5pm tonight we pointed the car westward.  We were at Costco inside 40 minutes - a normally 15 min drive without traffic.  It was crowded at the Pointe Claire warehouse - and all we were going for was to buy 2 hot dogs - one to share for our lunch the following day and one for Christy to put into her Kraft Dinner!  We knew the hot dogs were $1.50 each - what we didn't know was that this was with a 20oz unlimited refill soft drink!  So for $3.45 ...

A Realization - An Epiphany!

Image
It all started a couple of days ago - well - actually many years ago to be frank!  Up until 2003 I had been extremely active physically - working out 6 days/week and also playing racquet sports/golf.  Then I had a life altering experience and with this went my desire for physical activity.  From that point - for the most part all I have done is walk.  Some years a lot - others not so much. I was in the hospital for an extended period from February of this year - and the combination of complete inactivity along with 3 hearty meals/day did not help my midsection.  On Monday, Christy and I had a wonderful tour of the Western part of the island of Montreal - with one stop being to sign up for a Costco membership.  When I saw the fatness in my face - the jig was up!  I must get back to my former ways! My plans for fitness, racquet sports and golf are tremendous for the Montreal area:  NuVoWay LifeStyle Centres .  G3 Golf facilities .  These a...

An Idea Whose Time Has Come

Image
Admittedly - I am an ideas man.  Over 22 years ago, God gave me as a title - Chief Imagination Officer - for my company G3 .  The vast majority of my ideas are large and global - and as a result I have been labelled 'grandiose' and 'delusional.' That only tells half the story.  My entire life I have had big - if not huge dreams.  I wanted to be one of the best players on the planet in the sport I love - racquetball - and I accomplished this.  I wanted to become a veterinarian - and returned from playing professional racquetball living out of San Diego and Denver - and undertook a sequence of studies involving a mature student load at Concordia University (120 credits) to get my BSc Biology in 2.5 years - and then to apply, be accepted and complete my DVM degree at Ontario Veterinary College at Guelph in 1989.  in 2001 - after numerous business endeavours - as President and CEO - I took my company - NuVo - onto NASDAQ in a fast 11 months from inception....

Breakfast at the Oxford Cafe

Image
Christy and I were looking for another venue to try for Sunday Brunch in NDG.  We opted for Oxford Cafe  at the corner of Oxford and Sherbrooke.  Getting there at just after 9am on a Sunday - we expected the restaurant to be hopping - there was not a soul in the place!  The very friendly lady, Gity Pour, who welcomed us helped us to a table and served us immediately with coffee and beautiful menus. The tables were small - cramped actually - but the coffee was very good!  I opted for a Western Omelette with cheddar cheese and home fries.  Christy had 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, beans and fruit.  She asked for all these things because every restaurant we have gone to recently has offered these. When the meals came - in very good time I might add - there was hardly room on the table for all the plates - my plate, Christy's plate with the eggs, sausage, bacon and the fruit, a plate with beans and toast and a final plate with her hash browns.  ...

A Morning in Kahnawake

Image
My posts are generally about time spent in and around NDG - and finding Heaven on Earth in the present.  Last Saturday my wife Christy and I went on a bit of a sojourn - across the Mercier Bridge to Kahnawake for gas - which was $150.9/litre there and $169.9/litre at my local station.  On top of this, all the people are English and friendly! Following gassing up, we decided to venture a ways south - towards Chateauguay - and the areas where Christy grew up.  We saw the house she lived in much of her young life, the primary school she went to and the parks she played in.  We went into an area called 'the heights' - and then followed the Chateauguay River for several blocks - where each house had a portable dock on the side of the river - just ready to be thrown in - and likely used to swin from and moor boats to. As we returned to Rte 132 and headed back for Montreal, my eyes spied a place called Dickson Golf .  I pulled the car into their parking lot - which was...
