A Morning in Kahnawake
Following gassing up, we decided to venture a ways south - towards Chateauguay - and the areas where Christy grew up. We saw the house she lived in much of her young life, the primary school she went to and the parks she played in. We went into an area called 'the heights' - and then followed the Chateauguay River for several blocks - where each house had a portable dock on the side of the river - just ready to be thrown in - and likely used to swin from and moor boats to.
As we returned to Rte 132 and headed back for Montreal, my eyes spied a place called Dickson Golf. I pulled the car into their parking lot - which was near-full at 8:30am! As we walked in we were greeted by a young man who had just taken off his golf glove - who was looking after the downstairs area which houses one golf simulator and the bar. WE spoke with him for a good ten minutes and then were introduced to Dawn, who told us of their plans to transform the facility for next fall - into an operation with 6 indoor golf simulators upstairs along with the bar and a full golf shop downstairs. On the simulator wall downstairs was a big logo for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf Series - something very special for youngsters across Canada and the US.
Upon leaving Dickson Golf we headed north along Rte 132 and almost immediately came to Playground Poker. Our plan was to walk around for 5-10 minutes just to see the place. It is beautiful and spectacular! So clean and alive! We took an amazing escalator up to the second floor and had to partake in the delicious breakfast buffet they offered! It was $15 - no taxes - and you received $10 per meal in play credit - so the meal - which included great unlimited coffee, fresh fruit salad, toast, baked beans, hash browns, ham, bacon and sausage, pancakes and scrambled eggs - was only $5! We are not big gamblers, but we have decided to come to this venue every second Sunday at around 8am, partake in the breakfast, play out our joint $20 in credits on the blackjack tables - stopping if we are ever up $50 - get our gas at Get 'n Go - come back in to town and go to Rose Bowl Lanes for a couple of games of billiards before church at 11am!
I hope that this piques your interest and that you decide to make the trip south to Kahnawake - and to Dickson Golf if you are a golfer. The breakfast buffet at Playground Poker is only on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am-12pm. If you go once I hope you have the same experience we had and opt to make many return visits!
All my love,
