Breakfast at the Oxford Cafe

Christy and I were looking for another venue to try for Sunday Brunch in NDG.  We opted for Oxford Cafe at the corner of Oxford and Sherbrooke.  Getting there at just after 9am on a Sunday - we expected the restaurant to be hopping - there was not a soul in the place!  The very friendly lady, Gity Pour, who welcomed us helped us to a table and served us immediately with coffee and beautiful menus.

The tables were small - cramped actually - but the coffee was very good!  I opted for a Western Omelette with cheddar cheese and home fries.  Christy had 2 eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, beans and fruit.  She asked for all these things because every restaurant we have gone to recently has offered these.

When the meals came - in very good time I might add - there was hardly room on the table for all the plates - my plate, Christy's plate with the eggs, sausage, bacon and the fruit, a plate with beans and toast and a final plate with her hash browns.  Everything looked amazing!  The fruit was the star!  There must have been 10 different fruits - all in really good portions and beautifully displayed - apple, orange, banana, green and red grapes, cantaloupe, melon, pineapple, papaya and dragon fruit - to name most.

Christy's endorsement of the meal was instantaneous - 'I love this place' - she said upon food delivery!  I took a fast bite of the home fries and found them remarkable!  The Western Omelette was as I have never experienced - the vegetables - onions and green pepper were cooked separately and then added to the omelette at the end.  My only complaint was that the chef, Mohamed Salgooghian, had omitted my cheese!  Not to worry - it was fantastic anyways!

We were a little late on parade and had a couple of things to still do - and couldn't stay to speak with the owners.  The bill was hefty - $55 plus tip - but the fresh fruit was easily worth $10-$15.  There was too much food for Christy to finish and we will know this for future.  We loved the place and want to encourage everybody within earshot of the Oxford Cafe to come out and indulge.  If you love fresh fruit - make a point of ordering it specifically - you will not be sorry!

We feel very good about helping owner/operators such as Gity and Mohamed - along with all the store owners in Cavendish Mall - to continue to make a living in this very difficult economy.  Please do your part and patronize them - and enjoy!

All my love,
