A Return to the Cavendish Mall of Old

This past Sunday - my love - Christy-Anne Strike and I had occasion to go to Quartier Cavendish .  My recent trips to the mall had been mostly in the daytime when there was not much activity.  On this Sunday - the mall was alive!  The entire food court - which is not the size it used to be - was full of families enjoying meals!  The walkways were filled with people and there was a distinct buzz in the air!  There was a little petting zoo in the middle court - with youngsters clamoring to pet and feed the animals - and a little train circulated the mall - filled with children and their parents.

We were there to see Wicked - and the sole detraction from the entire experience was that there was a group of 4 younger children - unsupervised - who likely didn't even have tickets for the show and made incessant noise throughout the show - despite our request for them to either keep quiet or move (the theatre was near-empty).

We returned to the mall this afternoon and were surprised and elated to see a good number of people dispersed around the premises - in the food court - by the petting zoo and in the stores.  Our first stop was to Ralph's Men's Wear - to visit an old friend named Gino Scandale.  My girlfriend found a beautiful velour men's jacket - which Gino said she'd look great in - and she did!  It became a late Christmas gift!  We then went on to Golteez - an amazing little treasure in the northern section of the mall to wish owner Fred and the wonderful young lady who works with him a Happy New Year.  From there we went to Christy's favourite clothing store - Chelsea - where we wished the owner Albert and Taraya a Happy New Year.  We weren't able to leave the store without Christy buying a lovely pair of plaid pants.

It was then on to Cine Starz Cavendish - for a repeat performance of Wicked.  It was great to see Bernie - formerly of the Dollar Cinema in Decarie Square - manning the door.  We had a very nice little chat - both before and following the movie.  To close out our day we made a stop at Maxie's Bakery - where we wished Mark a Happy New Year and got a couple of nice fresh pastries to take home.

I hope that this blog post will serve as a reminder that Cavendish Mall is not inactive - but is very much alive and replete with great deals and selction from a myriad of retailers - a really great bunch of people.  I had heard rumours that the mall may be demolished in favour of building more townhomes and office towers.  Following speaking with one of the owners about this - his exact words were - not in my lifetime - and he is a very vibrant and vital 80-something year old man!  So please buy local and take the time to visit the retailers at Cavendish Mall.

Wishing you peace, love and joy always...
