From Dreaming of a Better World to Building One

A New Book by Ross Harvey

For more than two decades, I have dreamed of a world in which every human being has the opportunity to live an extraordinary life. A world where poverty is eliminated, where everyone has access to everything they need to thrive, where communities are built upon love, kindness, generosity, cooperation and caring for one another.

I call this vision A NuVo World — Heaven on Earth.

Over the years, I have written extensively about this possibility. I have imagined new ways of living, working, learning, playing, sharing and caring. I have envisioned a society in which money no longer determines the quality of a person's life.

But something has changed.

I believe I am moving from the age of imagining to the age of creating. From ideating to building. From asking "What if?" to asking "How do we make it happen?"

My newest book, Imagine NDG, represents this transformation.

Rather than envisioning a better world somewhere in the distant future, I have chosen to begin right here, in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Montreal — the community Christy and I call home.

Imagine all 68,152 members of our NDG community living in a society that, for all intents and purposes, is moneyless. Imagine every adult having a G3 "Limitless" Debit Card, providing access to life's necessities and opportunities. Imagine magnificent NuVoWay LifeStyle Centres, exceptional healthcare, lifelong education, abundant recreation, beautiful homes, meaningful opportunities to contribute, and a community in which nobody is left behind.

Imagine a place where people no longer live in fear of not having enough, but instead wake up each morning excited about the possibilities of another wonderful day.

Now imagine that we actually build it!

That is what Imagine NDG is about.

It is not simply another book about what the world could become. It is my invitation to begin the extraordinary work of transforming one real community, one neighbourhood, one organization, one family and one person at a time.

I recognize that a transformation of this magnitude will require enormous cooperation, resources, creativity, planning and commitment. It will not happen overnight. But every extraordinary achievement in human history began when someone imagined something that did not yet exist — and then began the work of making it real.

I have spent much of my life imagining the possibilities.

Now I want to devote the next chapter of my life to helping bring those possibilities into existence.

I don't expect to accomplish this alone. Quite the opposite! My greatest hope is to inspire thousands of people to become co-creators of something truly remarkable.

And perhaps, one day, other communities around the world will look at what we have accomplished in NDG and say:

"If they can do it, why can't we?"

That is how a movement begins. That is how a community becomes an example. And perhaps that is how we begin creating an entirely NuVo World.

Imagine NDG is more than the title of my newest book.

It is an invitation. A commitment. A beginning.

The dreaming has been beautiful.

Now comes the joy of building!
