Before We Throw It Away

What if NDG became a neighbourhood where we repaired things together instead of simply replacing them?

Imagine a Saturday morning at a local community centre.

A retired electrician is helping someone repair a lamp. A grandmother is teaching a young person how to mend a favourite jacket. Someone who knows bicycles is showing a child how to fix a flat tire.

Coffee is brewing. People are laughing. New friendships are forming.

And things that might otherwise have ended up in the garbage are being given another chance.

Welcome to the NDG Repair Circle!

Sharing Skills, Building Community

I love the idea of neighbours gathering regularly to share their knowledge and practical skills.

Some people know how to sew. Others understand computers, woodworking, bicycles or household repairs.

Imagine bringing these people together for a few hours each month, with appropriate tools and safety precautions.

We would save money, reduce waste, learn useful skills and discover talents within our community that might otherwise remain hidden.

But something even more wonderful could happen.

People who arrived needing help might leave feeling they have something valuable to offer someone else.

Today's A NuVo World Challenge

Think about one practical skill you possess that might help a neighbour.

Could you teach someone? Fix something? Show a young person how to do something useful?

Perhaps you could even help organize NDG's first neighbourhood Repair Circle!

My vision for A NuVo World is a community where our greatest resources aren't always the things we own.

They're the people we have around us.

One repaired treasure. One shared skill. One stronger NDG.
