Feb 14 - A Special Day - A Special Meal

Valentines Day 2026 - Celebrating our first Anniversary

It wasn't a difficult decision to go back to Baton Rouge Decarie to celebrate our anniversary.  It was the scene of our first date in late 2024 - and has played host to several memorable dinners since.  The challenge was that our anniversary is also Valentine's Day - and we wanted to feel like the only people in the restaurant.

We decided on an early dinner and got to the restaurant just before 3pm.  It was already abuzz, however we were ushered to a wonderful booth in the back of the restaurant.  Within a matter of moments our waiter arrived - Peter - who had served us only a short number of weeks ago.  We ordered a big Heineken each and Peter suggested we try the Crispy Brussels Sprouts as an appetizer.  We complied!  Inside 5 minutes we were enjoying our beers - and the absolutely wonderful Brussels Sprouts - drizzled with Mike's Hot Honey, in a sesame and tahini dressing with maple candied pecans.

It was hardly another five minutes following completion of our appetizer that our mains arrived.  Christy had a medium-rare filet mignon with veggies and a loaded baked potato and I opted for a rack of ribs, fries and coleslaw.  Peter had asked the chef to give Christy Brussels Sprouts as veggie - and her plate came loaded with really tasty sprouts!  For the next 15-20 minutes we thoroughly enjoyed our food - casting regular glances of thorough enjoyment at each other.  When we were both finished there was hardly a scrap left on either plate - and as I said to Christy - 'our Mums would be proud of us for eating all our food!'

We were sated - and happy - but while on most occasions we would not opt for dessert - dinner at Baton Rouge is one clear exception.  We chose one piece of Raspberry, White Chocolate Cheesecake (with 2 forks) which Peter served to us with a candle!  It was an amazing way to close a beautiful afternoon!

Regular readers of my blog know that my hope and goal is to awaken people to the Heaven on Earth moments (and more) that we experience in our daily lives.  We realize our lives are charmed and monitored closely by our Father - God (Noel).  This was evidenced by the fact that we had the same waiter - Peter - who we connected with weeks earlier - even though we were in a completely different part of the restaurant.

Baton Rouge is not cheap - but if you want a special, first class meal in a beautiful environment - I urge you to try Baton Rouge Decarie.

All my love,
