Saturday close to home

After a relatively hectic week, Christy and I decided to take it easy today and stay close-to-home.  Whereas normally I am up early (5am) and out the door to my 'office' - the two benches outside Metro Grocers on Somerled at Walkley for 7:15am - I chose to stay at my computer this morning and send out emails pertaining to the initiatives I am building with NDG Project.

On Wednesday we had done our first order as a couple - at Super C - and had got several great buys - 12 Kraft Dinner for $9.97 (they were $2.49each if bought separately!) and a whole bbqed chicken for $9.99.  I offered to make us KD for dinner on Thursday - but Christy wanted nothing to do with my microwave recipe and prepared an absolutely yummy version - first boiling the water, then adding everything (noodles, cheese and butter) and allowing to sit covered for 10 mins.  She then shaved an onion into the mix - it was heavenly!

We decided to have half the chicken for dinner tonight and opted for a baked Russet potato each.  I like mine with just margarine, but Christy enjoys hers loaded with sour cream, butter and chives - and she wanted cranberry sauce for our chicken!  So later this morning I headed for Dollarama and Metro.  At Dollarama I found Ocean Spray whole cranberry sauce - and almost right next to it - Betty Crocker Herbs and Butter Mashed Potato mix - it spoke to me!  As Christy says - I got an 'Angel Nudge!'  When I announced to her that we were having mashed potatoes from a bag - her comment was - Mum used to make them often!

At just before 1pm we pointed the car south to go to Food Not Bombs' regular service from 1 to about 2:30pm on Saturdays.  It was great to see Hannah and the other organizers there!  They had prepared a feast for all comers - with really great rice, an incredible vegetarian curry, grilled potatoes and a nice salad.  As we say and enjoyed our meal - along with a very nice coconut tea - Madelene 'the Magnificent' stopped by and came and sat with us.  Martine who we see all around the neighbourhood was out for the afternoon and looking for birds to feed!  The food was so great we opted for seconds - and while Christy saved most of hers for later - I wolfed my entire portion down.

Later in the afternoon, Christy said she was really looking forward to the chicken to which I answered - "i am stuffed!'  At 5pm I put her chicken in the oven and we made the potatoes and meted out the cranberry sauce.  As she ate her enjoyment was palpable!  Chicken and mashed potatoes with cranberry sauce was every bit as good as having a baked potato!

I hope you enjoy this very simple post about a normal day - and see the beauty and wonder in it - as we do!

All my love,
