A Day to Remember
Christy had a favourite guitar going back 25 years ago. It was a round-backed Ovation. She has dreamed of getting another since hers was stolen from her possession by her former husband. Over the last several months I have regularly scanned the classifieds (FB Marketplace, Kijiji...) for used models. I found a beautiful used Ovation for $250 and told Christy that if she could get the $300 a friend owed me from her - she could use it for the guitar. Well - that came through in the last days and we went and got her the guitar yesterday morning. And the amazing young man who was selling it let her have it for $220 - with two soft cases! He is selling off his inventory of guitars at present - so if you are looking - check him out: Olivier Guitares.
We came home for just after 12pm and I made us Egg McMuffins for lunch. I watched some French Open Tennis until about 2:30pm - at which point I gave Christy the choice of movies to watch. She chose The Green Mile starring Tom Hanks. It was not only a good movie - but a great one - and I recommend every one either seeing it for the first time - or rewatching as we did.
At 6:15pm we got in the car and headed for Snowdon where we were going to pick up a laptop for Christy. It is an older model LeNovo Thinkpad - in great condition with a fast CPU, nice graphics and a DVD player. I had priced them at around $150 - and this one was $70! The man who sold it to us - Pavel - could not have been any nicer! So while we are by no means rich - today Christy got a guitar which was worth $1000 and a laptop which was easily over $1000 - all for less than that $300 I received from my friend!
I had one last surprise for her. Her favourite restaurant is Baton Rouge and we were in the vicinity. I suggested we make this a real memorable day and celebrate with a great dinner. Her smile gave me the answer I was looking for. We had a big Heineken each, Christy had filet mignon with a loaded baked potato and veggies and I had ribs with fries - and we ended with a scrumptious piece of Raspberry White Chocolate Cheesecake! Christy offered to pay for this with the $100 we won at Playground Poker on Sunday!
We are two people who give God all the glory for where we are in our lives. Imagine - on Nov 26, 2024 we first met at our local food bank - where I was eating 3 days/week. Now we are blissfully married and due to so many wonderful things that are happening in our lives - we do not have to eat at the food bank anymore and are getting to indulge in life as we did yesterday!
All my love,
