Le Manoir NDG: Patronizing Peter

Thursday was my great friend Andy Coolman's birthday.  In celebration, Andy, his little sister Natalie, their friend Andrew and I went out for dinner.  Natalie is from Toronto and Andrew lives in Mile End, so the choice of where to go was left to me.  I opted for Le Manoir NDG on St. Jacques - citing their excellent food quality and menu selections.

For those who have never been, Le Manoir NDG is a beautiful and very large restaurant, with beverage service.  It is owned by Peter Sergakis - the kingpin of the bar industry in Quebec if not Canada.  He owns all three Le Manoir franchises - which are renowned for their food quality.  The NDG edition of this chain was built by Peter in the space left empty by the demise of Picasso, a well known 24 hour restaurant which was patronized by many of the overnight crowd following the closure of the bars.

While it is beautiful and serves an amazing assortment of great dishes -  reasonably and rapidly - it has never been patronized to the extent it should be.  Our experience of Thursday evening shows why it should be.  Immediately upon our entry, a friendly waitress greeted us, took our drink orders and brought them to us promptly, including water for all.  She gave us the menus and the specials menu (which includes soup and dessert) - gave us a couple of minutes and then returned to take our order.  Both Andy and Natalie decided to follow my lead and order the Hamburger Steak, with peppercorn sauce, choice of potatoes and fresh vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots) which come directly from Peter's Organic Farm.  Andrew was not hungry and simply ordered a coffee and apple pie a la mode.  Our meals came to us within 10 minutes, piping hot and delicious!

Just a word about price here.  Our meal was $19.  On the specials menu were Beef Bouguignon at $16.99 as well as Baked Cheese and Meat Cannelloni at $16.99 as well.  This is including soup and dessert!

I have known Peter for over 30 years, from the time where he started PJ's Pub.  He is a quiet and private man who is very principled and a staunch supporter and advocate for the industries he serves, most notably, the bar and restaurant and housing industries.  He has done tremendous good for both of these in defending their rights and pushing for better and tighter controls.  He also has supported many charitable endeavours in his long history, with his time and his money.

He has built an amazing business in Le Manoir NDG - and we need to come out and support him.  There is no better place in NDG - if not in Montreal - to organize a big gathering for anywhere from 20 to 200 people.  You can be certain that Peter will see to it that your event is hosted to the greatest of abilities by all the staff.  So please - if you have never had occasion to try this place out - do - I promise you it will not be your last time as you will be extremely impressed!

Wishing you peace, love and joy always...
